Montana Offender Notification & Tracking System
UPDATE - August/September 2009

This update covers both August and September. My sincere apologies for not getting it out in August, but travel schedules made it difficult to accomplish in September so I am sending out one report for both months. In August we spent time working with the congressional delegation to identify future funding sources for the project and on August 11 Jenn Ewen (a Missoula Legislative Aide to Senator Baucus) and Heather O'Laughlin (a DC Legislative Aide to Senator Baucus) agreed to attend a project update. Also in attendance were Jim Smith and Greg Hintz. Both of the aides were impressed with the project and expressed an interest in learning more about the details of the OTTER Voice Notification System and more details about how the systems function.

For the month of May the MONTS Project through its partnership with AquilaVision, the MSPOA and Invizeon has more than 50 electronic Monitoring Units up and running with over 900 + days of offender tracking in nine different counties. These GPS tracking units are being used in a variety of governmental agencies for monitoring: sex offenders, youths, prison inmates, veterans, parolees and in DUI Cases.

Montana Offender Tracking & Notification System UPDATE— April 2009

The project has continued to move forward and we are looking forward to the upcoming Annual MSPOA Convention in June. In the last month we have been able to strengthen our alliance with the Montana DUI Task Force, the Missoula Crimes Victims Advocate Office, and to gain additional participants by collaborating with the Montana Probation and Parole and the Cascade County Sheriffs Office. All project sites have continued to yield valuable data regarding the benefits and short-falls of electronic monitoring in Montana.
