BOARD MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Purpose of position......
M.S.P.O.A. Board members are responsible for maintaining and promoting the organization in the accomplishment of its goal.

2. Job requirements......
Board members must be full time, sworn, Sheriffs, Undersheriffs, or Deputy Sheriffs.
Board members must have had dues paid at least sixty(60) days prior to being elected and must maintain that paid membership during their tenure.

3. Duties and responsibilities......
Board member duties and responsibilities include but are not
limited to:
Policy and planning
Public and community relations
Fiscal/Budgetary and resource development
Personnel
Evaluation

4. Training requirement......
Board members are expected to attend Board training and Board retreats and planning sessions.

5. Travel requirements......
Montana is a large state. Board members should be prepared to travel to Board meetings, committee meetings, training sessions, and other events that may occur. This travel may include long drives in bad weather. Board members may be asked to travel out of state on Association business from time to time.

6. Attendance......
Board members should be prepared to attend all Association meetings and functions. Board members are responsible for obtaining authorization from their individual administrations to attend meetings. It is understood that the nature of our business makes it difficult to attend meetings from time to time. The Association does not allow for proxy representation.

7. Time requirements......
Normally, Association business requires an average of 1- 2 days per month. However, during a legislative year, or when
working on a particular Association project, it may require considerable time.

8. Committee requirements......
Board members are expected to actively participate on any
committees the member may be appointed to. Board members
may ask to be appointed to particular committees. All
committee appointments are made by the President
immediately following the annual election. Subcommittees
may be appointed by the President or the committee Chair
when necessary.

9. Term of Office......
Board member terms are for one(1) year. This term is from the annual conference in June to the following scheduled conference. Board members may serve consecutive terms if reelected at the annual conference.

10. Reimbursement......
Board members serve without compensation. Board members are reimbursed for expenses (mileage, lodging, and per-diem) when a travel voucher is submitted. This reimbursement will be at the current rates adopted by the Board. Board members who are reimbursed for expenses by the Association and are using County vehicles or expense accounts, are responsible for reimbursing their Counties.
